Could the Smoking Ban in Britain Take Bingo Players On to the Internet?

Much has been written in the press not long ago concerning the bingo industry being hit as a result of the anti cigarette law in England. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive tax cuts to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But will the web adaptation of this traditional game provide a reprieve, or might it never compare to its land based kin?

Bingo has been an enduring game normally played by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game of late had undergone a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to hit the bingo parlors instead of the bars on a weekend. This is all about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the cigarette ban all over Britain.

No longer will enthusiasts be allowed to smoke while dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 every public place will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most common areas where many people like to smoke.

The outcome of the smoking ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already illegal in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plunged and the business is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Of course they haven’t deserted this age old game?

The answer is on the net. Gamblers realize that they can gamble on bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and smoke and in the end, have a chance at huge prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course playing on the net can never replace the collective aspect of going over to the bingo hall, but for a group of players the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo players with no choice.
