Might the Anti Smoking Law in Britain Force Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Internet?

A lot has been stated in the press recently about the bingo industry being hit as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in Britain. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive aid to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. However does the net variation of this classic game provide a reprieve, or might it never compare to its real life equivalent?

Bingo is an established game historically played by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game lately had experienced a recent comeback in popularity with younger men and women opting to hit the bingo parlors rather than the bars on a weekend. This is all about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the cigarette ban across United Kingdom.

No longer will players be permitted to smoke while marking numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public locations will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favored locations where people enjoy smoking.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Numbers have dropped and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Surely they have not abandoned this ancient game?

The answer is on the internet. Gamblers realise that they can enjoy bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and smoke and still have a chance at huge prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course playing on the internet is unlikely to replace the communal part of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a group of players the law has left a good many bingo enthusiasts with no option.
