Might the Anti Cigarette Law in England Drive Bingo Players On to the Web?

Much has been stated in the press not long ago about the bingo industry being hit as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in the United Kingdom. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big tax breaks to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But does the internet variation of this traditional game offer a escape, or might it in no way compare to its real life opposite?

Bingo is an age old game usually played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game lately had experienced a recent return in popularity with younger people opting to go to the bingo parlors in place of the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the cigarette ban around UK.

No more will players be able to smoke whilst marking off their numbers. From the summer of 2007 every public place will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favored areas where folks like to puff on cigarettes.

The results of the smoking ban can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo halls. Numbers have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they haven’t forgotten this age old game?

The answer is on the internet. People realise that they can enjoy bingo from their computer while enjoying a beverage and cigarette and still enjoy huge jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened just about perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course playing on the net can never replace the communal aspect of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the rules have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
