Bingo and Oklahoma: 2 birds of a feather

Oklahoma has long been interrelated with Bingo. That is due to the fact that the American Indian tribes of Oklahoma have provided Bingo games for many years. Guests from all of the neighboring states load up in cars and travel to Oklahoma to play Bingo on the weekends.

The 1988 IGRA became law after a precedent setting decision by The U.S. Supreme Court just the prior year. Since that time, 23 of the 39 American Indian bands located in Oklahoma have opened bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma American Indian band to take advantage of the betting restrictions, and at this time control ten casinos of their very own. Bingo was the game on which these gambling dens were built on. Electronic games such as one armed bandits were not authorized, due to the fact that they are thought to lead to gambling addiction more than bingo.

In the past few years, Oklahoma governing edicts has changed to permit big Amerindian gambling gambling halls. You’ll now discover Amerindian gambling dens with slots, video poker and twenty-one tables. Craps and roulette are not authorized in the Native casinos yet, although that is simply a waiting game. No one can authority whether having different games in the bingo parlors will do for the popularity of bingo.
