Oklahoma has for a long time been synonymous with Bingo. This is owing to the fact that the American Indian bands of Oklahoma have operated Bingo sessions for many years. Guests from each of the surrounding states get in automobiles and travel to Oklahoma to gamble on Bingo over the weekends.
The 1988 (IGRA) Indian Gaming Regulatory Act followed a precedent setting decree by The U.S. Supreme Court just the year prior. Since that time, twenty three of the 39 American Indian tribes of Oklahoma have established gambling halls. The Chickasaw were the initial Oklahoma Amerindian band to take advantage of the gambling rules, and today run 10 gambling dens of their very own. Bingo is the game on which these gambling halls were built on. Electronic games like slot machines weren’t allowed, due to the fact that they are believed to contribute to gambling addiction more than bingo.
In the past few years, Oklahoma law have changed to permit gigantic American Indian betting casinos. You will now find Native casinos with one armed bandits, video poker and black jack tables. Craps and roulette are still not authorized in the Indian casinos yet, although that is simply a matter of time. No one can say whether having different games in the bingo parlors will do for the appeal of bingo.
