A lot has been reported in the papers recently about the bingo industry struggling because of the smoking ban in the United Kingdom. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But does the web adaptation of this classic game provide a salvation, or might it not compare to its land based kin?
Bingo is an familiar game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had undergone a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger people opting to go to the bingo parlours rather than the bars on a weekend. This is all about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the cigarette ban across United Kingdom.
No longer will gamblers be able to smoke while dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public locations will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favorite locations where many people like to puff on cigarettes.
The results of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo parlors. Profits have dropped and the business is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Surely they have not abandoned this established game?
The answer is on the internet. People realize that they can participate in bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and smoke and still enjoy monstrous jackpots. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course betting on on the web will never replace the social aspect of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left many bingo players with no choice.
