A lot has been stated in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry being hit because of the cigarette ban in England. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But will the web adaptation of this traditional game provide a escape, or might it not compare to its land based relative?
Bingo has been an classic game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had witnessed a recent comeback in popularity with younger men and women opting to go to the bingo parlours instead of the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to be destroyed with the enacting of the smoking ban all over England and Wales.
Players will no longer be able to smoke while marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public location will not be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favorite places where folks like to smoke.
The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Numbers have dropped and the industry is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Obviously they haven’t abandoned this established game?
The answer is online. Players are now realizing that they can bet on bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and in the end, enjoy monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself almost perfectly with the ban on smoking.
Of course wagering on on the internet can never replace the collective part of going over to the bingo hall, but for a group of players the rules have left many bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
