Oklahoma has for a long time been interrelated with Bingo. This is owing to the fact that the Amerindian bands of Oklahoma have provided Bingo games for many years. Guests from each of the surrounding states pile in cars and travel into Oklahoma to gamble on Bingo over the weekends.
The 1988 (IGRA) Indian Gaming Regulatory Act followed a landmark decision by The U.S. Supreme Court just the prior year. Since that time, twenty three of the 39 Indian bands of Oklahoma have established gaming halls. The Chickasaw were the initial Oklahoma Indian band to take advantage of the wagering laws, and today operate 10 gambling halls of their own. Bingo was the game on which the above-mentioned casinos were built on. Electronic games such as slots were not permitted, due to the fact that they are believed to contribute to gambling addiction more than bingo.
In recent years, Oklahoma rules have changed to allow for big American Indian wagering gambling dens. You will now find Indian gambling halls with slot machine games, video poker and twenty-one tables. Craps and roulette are still not authorized in the American Indian gambling halls as of yet, although this is simply a waiting game. No one can say whether having different games in the bingo parlours will do for the appeal of bingo.
