Might the Cigarette Ban in Britain Take Bingo Players On to the Net?

A lot has been reported in the papers recently concerning the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the anti smoking law in England. Conditions have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big tax cuts to help keep the businesses afloat. But will the web adaptation of this quintessential game provide a escape, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar equivalent?

Bingo has been an age old game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game of late had undergone a recent increase in acceptance with younger men and women deciding to visit the bingo parlors instead of the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the smoking ban around England and Wales.

Players will no longer be allowed to smoke while dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public places will not be permitted to allow smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most popular areas where folks enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo parlours. Players have plunged and the business is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Obviously they have not given up on this enduring game?

The answer is on the internet. People are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a drink and cigarette and still enjoy big jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course betting on on the web can never replace the social portion of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the governing edicts have left many bingo players with little alternative.
