Will the Anti Smoking Law in the UK Drive Bingo Players On to the Net?

[ English ]

Much has been talked in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry being hit because of the anti smoking law in the UK. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. But will the net version of this traditional game offer a escape, or will it not compare to its real life opposite?

Bingo is an ancient game normally played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had undergone a recent increase in popularity with younger men and women opting to visit the bingo halls rather than the discos on a weekend. This is all about to be destroyed with the legislating of the smoking ban across UK.

No longer will enthusiasts be allowed to smoke while marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public area will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most popular areas where people enjoy smoking.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Certainly they have not cast aside this age old game?

The answer is on the web. Gamblers realize that they can enjoy bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and fag and still have a chance at big cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course betting on online could never replace the collective portion of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left a number of bingo players with no option.
