Will the Anti Smoking Law in Britain Force Bingo Players On to the Net?

[ English ]

An abundance has been talked in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the anti smoking law in the UK. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big tax breaks to help keep the businesses alive. But does the internet version of this quintessential game provide a escape, or will it in no way compare to its real life opposite?

Bingo is an familiar game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game of late had seen a recent comeback in popularity with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo halls in place of the discos on a weekend. This is all about to be reversed with the enforcement of the anti smoking law throughout United Kingdom.

No longer will enthusiasts be permitted to smoke whilst marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 every public place will not be permitted to allow smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most popular locations where people like to puff on cigarettes.

The outcome of the smoking ban can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo halls. Profits have plunged and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Certainly they have not forgotten this enduring game?

The answer is online. People realize that they can play bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and cigarette and still enjoy monstrous jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened just about perfectly with the anti smoking law.

Of course wagering on on the internet could never replace the communal part of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a group of players the law has left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
