A lot has been talked in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the cigarette ban in Britain. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive aid to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. But can the internet adaptation of this classic game present a lifeline, or might it never compare to its land based opposite?
Bingo has been an enduring game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had experienced a recent increase in popularity with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo halls in place of the bars on a Saturday night. All this is about to change with the enacting of the anti smoking law throughout United Kingdom.
No longer will gamblers be allowed to smoke while marking off their numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public locations will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favored areas where people enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo parlors. Profits have dropped and the business is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Of course they have not cast aside this familiar game?
The answer is on the internet. Players know that they can enjoy bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and still have a chance at big cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.
Of course wagering on on the internet can never replace the social aspect of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the law has left a good many bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
