Oklahoma has long been synonymous with Bingo. This is because the Native bands of Oklahoma have operated Bingo games for many years. Patrons from all of the nearby states load up in trucks and travel to Oklahoma to play Bingo over the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) was introduced after a benchmark decree by The U.S. Supreme Court just the prior year. From that instance, 23 of the 39 American Indian tribes located in Oklahoma have introduced gambling halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma Native band to take advantage of the gaming rules, and today control ten casinos of their own. Bingo was the game on which these casinos were founded. automated games such as slot machines weren’t authorized, because they are believed to contribute to gambling problems at a higher rate than bingo.
In recent years, Oklahoma law have changed to allow for massive Native betting gambling halls. You’ll now see Amerindian gambling dens with slots, video poker and twenty-one tables. Craps and roulette are still not authorized in the American Indian casinos yet, but this is just a matter of time. No one can say whether having other games in the bingo houses will do for the draw of bingo.
