Oklahoma has for a long time been interrelated with Bingo. That is because the Amerindian tribes of Oklahoma have run Bingo games for decades. Patrons from many of the surrounding states pile in cars and head over to Oklahoma to bet on Bingo over the weekends.
The 1988 (IGRA) Indian Gaming Regulatory Act followed a landmark decree by The U.S. Supreme Court the year prior. Since that instance, 23 of the thirty nine Indian bands of Oklahoma have established gambling halls. The Chickasaw were the initial Oklahoma Amerindian band to take advantage of the gaming laws, and today control 10 casinos of their own. Bingo is the game on which these casinos were founded. automated games like one armed bandits weren’t approved, on the grounds that they are thought to lead to gambling addiction at a higher rate than bingo.
In recent years, Oklahoma governing edicts have changed to permit enormous American Indian betting casinos. You’ll now see Native casinos with slot machines, video poker and 21 tables. Craps and roulette are still not legal in the Indian gambling dens as of yet, although that is simply a waiting game. Nobody can say what having different games in the bingo houses will do for the appeal of bingo.
