Will the Smoking Ban in Britain Drive Bingo Players On to the Net?

An abundance has been stated in the papers not long ago concerning the bingo industry struggling as a result of the cigarette ban in Britain. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge tax cuts to assist in keeping the industry afloat. However will the online variation of this traditional game offer a reprieve, or might it not compare to its land based peer?

Bingo has been an established game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game of late had witnessed a recent comeback in acceptance with younger men and women opting to hit the bingo parlors instead of the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the legislating of the cigarette ban throughout UK.

Players will no longer be able to puff on cigarettes whilst marking off their numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public place will not be permitted to allow smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most common areas where players enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo parlors. Players have plummeted and the industry is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Of course they have not deserted this familiar game?

The answer is on the internet. People are now realizing that they can play bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and smoke and in the end, have a chance at big prizes. This is a recent development and has happened almost perfectly with the anti smoking law.

Of course betting on on the net will never replace the communal portion of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
